ArtisTTable Sketchbook Show

Welcome to the ArtisTTable’s Sketchbook Exhibition. The exhibition has been moved here temporarily from http://www.ArtisTTableOnline.com archives, because so much of the art in our Shelved section of the site was deemed Adult Content. We have moved in and are in the process of moving everything off that site. For the last 5 years it has been hosted as a Google Site. Most everything was fine until last week when we were given the status as an Adult Site. We are in the middle of trying to get that status removed but it is very difficult and time consuming. You will be hearing more about this in the future, but lets just say that as you look through this exhibition you will find a few pieces of art that Google finds offensive enough that this show should be labeled with an Adult Content Warning. We are saddened by this situation.
It is an annoying situation for us and for you. It has made it nearly impossible for us to do our work of promoting art in our galleries and exhibitions or our retreats through the site.
Please look through this collection of work and enjoy it as it is.
Thanks,
…royce and tali…

 Tzeletz by Mario Atias

It is with great joy that we bring to you the ArtisTTable’s 26th exhibition – Sketchbook. Over the years we have put on some interesting exhibitions, and it is always fascinating to see how the themes have been interpreted. Sketchbook may be the most different one to date. Not because it is so abstract as a theme, but the sketchbook itself is so many things to every artist. One thing that you will notice in this show is that much of the art that you will find here is not finished art. In fact except that we are presenting this exhibition, much of the work you will see here was never really created with the idea that it would ever be seen by the public. So there is a certain intimacy you will see here and you will even get a small glimpse as to the artists thoughts and processes.

Some of the work here is truly preliminary sketches and studies with accompanying notes. While other works are drawings that may simply be figure studies made by the artist with no other purpose other than to draw. Of course there are pieces you will find that are indeed finished paintings.

As artists we use our sketchbooks in many ways, and no matter how we use them, they are for most of us very important to our artistic practices.

Juror’s Results and Comments:
We want to thank Itzy Schwartz for serving as our juror for this exhibition. We appreciate his time and work in this effort to review this body of submissions. We invited Itzy to juror this show because as an artist himself he is a consummate drawer, and throughout his career he has always put such great emphasis on giving the subject in each of his drawings and paintings the utmost importance. He has done that through exhaustive studies and sketches. We knew he would be able to understand very well, what was happening in the artist’s mind as the work submitted to this show was created.

First Place:
Mario Atias – Elaletz

Mario Atias’ mysterious sketches manage to transfer maximum information through the means of the sketchbook. Impressive work.

Second Place:
Jess Bettoun – Mont Dov 2
Another artist with impressive abilities. Jess Bettoun’s work are juicy, voluptous sketches filled with volume and a sense of larger work.

Third Place:
Dania Latar –  Untitled 5
Great drawings that are highly expressive and would look so very different if they had been created in a larger format.

Honorable Mentions:
The following artists have submitted work that is worthy of praise and recognition.
Sarit Adari – Woman and Bird
Jacob Bernstein – Pipes
Anat Bodasher – Bezalel Yafe Melchett Street – Tel Aviv
Tali Gillan – Dropping
Edna Karniel – Two Dressed Models
Nancy Wolitzer – The Beginning of an Unnatural Journal
Staff Choice Awards:

Tali’s Choice:
Yosef Wechler – Sitting Woman

Royce’s Choice:
Danielle Doctor – Distraction
This introspective look into the heart and mind of the artist as she deals with serious issue becomes a fascinating image. By using simple pens colored lines on a flat surface become dimensional and nearly liquid as lines distort while passing under other shapes.  …royce
